2021 Galway takeaways challenge part 1

In a totally arbitrary decision in 2021 I ordered from different places every week rather than the same place and if I ordered from say, McDonald's, I can't order from there again until 2022 hence the 'challenge'.

The only reasons I did this for was because I ordered a ton of Four Star Pizza only in 2020 mainly because I was on night shift, they opened until 4am and I wanted large pepperoni pizzas with black olives and of course Haagen Dasz on the side. So I wanted to do something different and have enjoyed it immensely the last six months.

Here are all the takeaways I've ordered from, some thoughts and recommendations. This is part 1 I'll do part 2 in December or whenever:

  1. mcdonalds - classic intro.
  2. botown - ordered brekkie burger and kids burger haha, kids burger was nicer!
  3. galway tandoori - classic butter chicken, was good
  4. goldenmountain - nothing exciting
  5. bun bros - standard burger place nothing too exciting
  6. four star - had to cross them off list eventually. Love their pizza
  7. umbrella - nothing too exciting
  8. curryandspice = not great butter chicken but I'm biased toward Galway tandoori
  9. woozza - these guys never wowed me ever, sadly.
  10. boojum - standard bean chili burrito, perfectly normal
  11. YUMMY WOK =  best spicy bag I've ever had. 2022 I will return.
  12. papa johns - the usual! All the meats and fine
  13. nuthot - lovely, lovely vegan spice bag. Tofu or whatever was cut small rather than obnoxious blocks.
  14. subway - vegan patty is good, first time trying will get again; otherwise usual sweet onion sauce and olives and other nonsense. COOKIES
  15. milanos - vegan padana pizza was nice but cheesecake was disappointing
  16. burger king - Vegan burger is excellent, will order again
  17. handsome burger - great chips and decent BBQ burger
  18. bare pantry - solid burger and solid chips, the nice ones with skin on them
  19. charcoal mary street - Veggie burger very good, falafel kebab good, onion rings were decent
  20. dominos - Meateor is always good
  21. shake dog - same as always! Route 66 and mixed fries, was exactly the same as always
  22. hush? burgers - really salty but I don't care about that so pushed into 7.5/10 range
  23. VOCHO - ordered sweet potato quesdilla and didn't really eat it, I don't really like sweet potato I just wanted the vegan option and it was too sweet. the loaded fries were the greatest thing ever though. 2022.
  24. wholly cow - decent burger and decent loaded fries but not as exciting as Vocho
  25. speedos - falafel kebab and onion rings. Solid all around but amazing chili/red sauce on it.
  26. scottys - it had been a while double scooter, chili cheese fries and daim sundae. Yum
  27. CHARCOAL - cross ST - bending my own rules, there are more than one branch so got from thsi one! instead of Mary's Street! Falafel kebab only, was cold when it got here.
  28. zambrero - the small burrito and loaded nachos were grand but the real star was the ice cream sandwiches you get here. Roll on 2022 I'll be back.
  29. captain's cabin - amazing veggie burger, nice vanilla shake but chickened out of my fish spice bag that I got on a whim, I'm sure the cod/whiting whatever was fine in the batter but maybe I was just full. Ate some of the fries and were grand
  30. bun and burger co - beef burger w/ mushrooms, loaded fries and kinder bueno shake all added up nicely
  31. da roberta - very nice carbonara, not too saucy more 'dry' which I like.
  32. sliders bar n grill - lovely beefy burgers and good loaded fries.
  33. underground pizza - loaded fries and donut were OK but the spice bag calzone, my first ever calzone, was absolutely AMAZING. Chicken, veg and spices were all excellent.
  34. harrys - much hyped and delivered more or less, great benny burger, OK loaded chips and indulgent dessert pushed it to 8/10. Would have been higher if the chips were amazing.
  35. venice - carbonara and a pepperoni pizza I split with Theo, both very strong 7/10
  36. classico - the calzone was decent, second one ever while the carbonara was tasty but must have been extremely salty I tend not to notice until later when I'm parched.
  37. mizzoni - the spice bag pizza was OK, I'm kind of going off chicken in general so wasn't too excited about the gigantic goujons that were on it.
  38. capones - great beef burger. Also a great vegan burger on the advice of a friend. Ate those two together and ordered a small chip as part of the deal and was OK.
  39. chef laura rosso - blue cheese burger, bacon cheese loaded fries and white cake.

So that about does her, wraps it all up. That's 39 takeaways in 24 weeks of 2021. Oop! I'm writing this now as I had kept a brief list on my Google sheet schedule. Pardon the brevity of the first few entries I was still on nights and blegh. I actually typed these backwards, starting with the most recent. I'm off to Mayo next week so will miss a little bit of time but most likely will order food again at the start of July when I'm recuperating from vaccine shot #2 at home. Will post some sort of life update in July maybe.
