July post #6 Karlach Origin #5 Honour Mode #8 part 1 Act1 half-finished
25th July I completed Honour mode with Gale and immediately started again as Karlach the Barbarian. She will lead an all-barbarian squad hopefully to the end of the game once again.
The party
Karlach Barbarian Berserker 5
Auto-prone frenzied throw is just amazing, but apparently Giant Barb is the better thrower, may need to re-think the party build later. Have managed to avoid long-resting so far but may do it to gte back rages for the Forge and rest of Underdark; then I long-rest again before/on-way to creche and finish Act 1 with 3 long rests. Then do all of Act 2 with no long rests!
Lae'zel Barbarian Giant 5
I know I always make Lae kickass but then I realised its a facial recognition thing. I see Lae's portait scowling at me and I know she's tough, strong class, while Shadowheart I usually cast in a more supportive role, Astarion sneaky/knifey etc. Helps to just keep them in their lane. It's going OK but migth need to re-jig equipment and roles and stats and everything again later. Also, might need GWM. Much to think about!
Shadowheart Barbarian Wild Magic 5
Seems OK? She is mainly just shooting her crossbow at the moment but have used Wild Magic Rage twice and both times got explosive flumphs which are kind of cool. Apparently all the random effects are beneficial so will have to see.
Astarion Barbarian Wildheart 5
I keep changing the 'Heart' every level since 3 - seems fine so far? Considering a dual-wield build later. Will have to re-spec later maybe.
Draft build plan may not be exact:
| Karlach all barbs | Karlach | Astarion | Lae'zel | Shadowheart |
| Class(es) | Barb8/Rogue4 | Barb8Fight4 | Barb11/Cleric1 | Barb10/Wiz2 |
| Subclasses | Berserker/Thief | Wildheart/BM | Giant?/War | Wildmage/? |
| Strength | 8*elixir | 16>18>20>22 | 16>18>20 | 8*club? |
| Dexterity | 16 | 14 | 16 | 16 |
| Constitution | 17 | 16 | 15 | 16 |
| Intelligence | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 |
| Wisdom | 12 | 10 | 10 | 10 |
| Charisma | 12 | 8 | 8 | 8 |
| Tavbrawl, | Str/Str/Alert | TavBrawl, Str>20 | Dex/Con>20 |
Timeline
25th July 2026 - I started and cleared the Nautaloid, then Withers' Temple after getting all 4 people, then the Grove setup, then the Blighted Village, then Ethel meeetup, then Goblin Fort, then various quests inching everything forward so I could get to level 5.
Assessment
It's going OK! Fun and strong, nice to see the two Wild barbarian subclasses haven't tried them yet. Should be fine to crush Act 1 and 2, the plan was to immediately bee-line to Gortash's coronation and crash that but idk. Might need a ton of barrels and bullsh*t to do it that way.

July post #5 Gale Origin Mode do-over Honour Mode part 5 Act3 finished Honour Mode finished for the 7th time
25th July I completed Honour mode with Gale - Orin fight, Gortash fight, skipped Ansur and climbed the brain and did not blow myself up, instead easily defeating the Emperor et al and the brain's lackeys. I gave up my Karsus powers to Mystra and became Professor Dekarios, all companions had their 'good endings' thus.
The party
Gale Evocation Wizard 12
Probably the understated MVP of the whole thing; I usually try not to have my main character be the outright star of the show but Wizard 12 was great, so many options. Most of it was blasting but nice to have so many different flavours of magic and not hurt my allies thanks to Evoker abilities. Managed to get Intelligence 22 and all the Weave gear Marko etc so was undeniable.
Lae'zel Swarmkeeper Ranger 12
With Elixir of Cloud Strength, Sharpshooter and the Titanstring Bow this certainly did a ton of damage, not as much as other builds but was up there. Free action teleport and AC boost was nice, with Raphael's Armour she had 28 AC per round sometimes.
Shadowheart Starry Druid 12
Moonbeam and bonus action Starry breath were my go to at the end of the game. Just keep moving around and doing both every turn.
Astarion Lore Bard 12
This never really became the best at anything but served me well as a support caster etc etc etc. Swords Bard is way better but Lore was fine.
Timeline finale
25th July 2026 - I was in Lower City anyway so killed Orin the usual way - Roaring Thunder arrows knocked all her disciples off the edge then just wore her down.
I went to Wyrm's Rock via the Baislisk Gate as I noted the warp was now disabled - the castle was on lockdown. I killed a bunch of Fists and Banites but retreated from the throne room - no sense wasting time and energy on them, I went up the usual side via Flying and whatnot and fought Gortash and his few surviving minions in the belltower as usual. One new thing I did was had Gale telekinesis Gortash into the bell, which caused him to fall and die to huge damage. Fun!
Finally I made my way to the Morphic Pool narrowly failed to reduce the brain's HP but it was fine; snuck my way to the end and had a ton of buffs via all my allies. I had freed Orpheus as per usual so the Emperor and his dream warriors died pretty quick - Telekinesis is my fave way to kill all 4 dream images. The Emperor gets burts down after and even the dragon didn't last long to all my dudes hasted and firing lightning spells at it. The Mind Flayer Arcanists were next and were gradually wiped then finally the brain itself. It took 2 rounds I think but Gale got the final zap.
Assessment
It was good! Not as great as other playthroughs but fine; nice to play Druid, Ranger and non-Swords Bard to their fullest. Plus Wizard obviously. This was the under-used/never-used classes run.
Once again, Origin Gale had some unique stuff some unique cutscenes but was a mute for most of it. Probably could have killed Ansur but there was no reason to. First time completing the Foundry (but not the Submarine) so that was cool.
Naturally I clicked New Game soon after and started the Karlach all-barbarian run and am now maybe halfway through Act 1, hitting level 5. Will clear the Underdark and Forge next and then off to the creche.

July post #4 Gale Origin Mode do-over Honour Mode part 4 Act3 half-finished
Almost finished now; did a tiny bit of Act 3 during the week, cleared the Guild mooks out from the squatters mansion at the start. Then on Friday 24th July I got about 8-10 hours done in Act 3; just another handful of hours left to do (Orin, Ansur maybe, Gortash, fin).
The party so far
Gale Evocation Wizard 12
Still good-to-great; I have him decked out in all the best caster gear. I never really bothered with Hold Person or Monster or any spells that allow the enemy to resist but with Arcane Acuity from the hat he's wearing plsu everything else, I am finally casting them a bit more. 'Held' Raphael twice for example which made him much easier than normal, all close-range hits are criticals so it makes for shorter work.
Lae'zel Swarmkeeper Ranger 12
Not the strongest overall tank I've ever ran but it's fun. There's a lot of overlap between Lae, SH and Astarion with Cloud of Daggers, Spike Growth, Wall of Fire and so on; if I'm not shooting, dual-wielding or breathing holy fire on enemies one or more of them are maintaining some sort of concentration spell.
Shadowheart Starry Druid 12
Starry Breath and Moonbeam are just amazing. Not much else to say about her, she just constantly deals radiant damage. Have used the other wildshapes less and less and have never used Starry Archer or Chalice? Idk dragon is just great.
Astarion Lore Bard 12
Not particularly great at anything but he's solid, a good swiss army knife member of the party. Cutting Words and so on are handy for making saves etc.
Timeline so far
24th July 2026 - cleared Rivington minus Ansur and Gortash as usual, then cleared all of the Lower City minus Orin more or less (so, Lorroakan, Fireworks, Sewers, House of Hope, Cazador, Shadowheart's stuff). Did the Steel Foundry for the first time and on Honour Mode; there was hellfire EVERYWHERE but Titan wasn’t too hard. All of that and no long rests (well, plenty of baths in House of Hope). Will take a long rest now and then clear Orin, Gortash (no Steel Watch guarding him!) and then get to the brain.
Assessment
Thinking I'll just hit new game after all this is over and it's a coin toss if I'll do Karlach All-Barbarians or Shadowheart All-Clerics.
This squad complements each other fairly well and are surprisingly durable, must return to a Gale Origin run in the future and retry the all-Wizards line-up.
19 July 2026
July post #3 Gale Origin Mode do-over Honour Mode part 3 Act2 finished
My second attempt at a Gale run; first run was all-Wizards and was going OK but one mistake cost me my whole low-HP party in one go; this is now a Gale as Wizard leading my least-used classes (pure, no multi-class Ranger, pure Druid, not-Swords pure Lord Bard).
The party so far
Gale Evocation Wizard 10
Occasional moments of brilliance, generally just solid member of the team - it is very satisfying to throw a fireball straight at my party or allies and not worries about damaging anyone. I usually fireball at the very start or end of combat so it's nice. I'm pretty sure Wall of Fire does no damage to them either? Need to double check that but it's cooking nicely. Hat of Fire Acuity as well so it's great.
Lae'zel Swarmkeeper Ranger 10
She got Sharpshooter at level 8 and I've been keeping it off but finally got the Risky Ring late in Act 2 and it all started to come together a bit. I hardly ever use the Flying charges the class provides but otherwise it provides tons of damage plus Arcane Acuity and Lightning Charges.
Shadowheart Starry Druid 10
This was amazing in the Shadowlands; I alternated between Colossus Owlbear and Starry Dragon Form but either one was excellent. Such a great use of bonus action. Probably the MVP of Act 2 due to all the Radiant shenanigans.
Astarion Lore Bard 10
Not the most powerful party member but have been giving him Elixir of Hill Giant Strength and the Titanstring bow and he can do a solid 20 damage that way. Otherwise he's just kind of a utility caster and support as necessary.
Timeline so far
17 July 2026 - cleared half of Act 2; had 1 long rest in the middle for the giggles
18 July 2026 - finished second half of Act 2
Assessment
Not the most exciting line up in combat but I've been making it fun with gigantic owlbear and arcane acuity shenanigans. This is also the least I've used barrels in the last couple of playthroughs, I'm surprised. That may change with some of the encounters in Act 3 (need to do Cazador, Raphael, Sharran Temple, possibly will try Gondian quest for first time ever).
I've found myself paying attention to the story again so that's good, I'm not skipping around as much and am taking my time.
Would love to try the Shadow Blade build sometime with Stone of Bliss and that Karlach all-barbarian run is sounding good, plus Shadowheart all-clerics to finish out the Origins.
12 July 2026
July post #2 Gale Origin Mode do-over Honour Mode
So I hit New Game on the 10th of July into the 11th of July and have now completed Act 1. Managed to do it in about 14 hours or so, which is about par for my recent Saoirse run. I was able to clear Act 2 twice recently in about 8 or 9 hours with no long rests so am hoping to repeat that, is it doable?
The party so far
Gale Evocation Wizard 7
Wizards really got nerfed in Bg3. I have zero desire to scribe a load of spell scrolls; often its just better to pick what you actually need at level up and simply use the scroll and move on.
I have Fireball and Wall of Fire etc now so should be fine.
Lae'zel Swarmkeeper Ranger 7
Occasionally she is the MVP, occasionally she is just there. Swarmkeeper extra damage after hitting with attacks plus Hunter Mark pops off crazy damage; not as much as an Open-Handed Monk but it's nice seeing numbers everywhere.
It's nice to have someone with decent HP, armour and damage potential but it's far from the most exciting. Super satisfying to do the Swarm Attack after hitting once though. Not sure if I prefer Bees, Jellies or Moths yet, I've been alternating every level.
Shadowheart Starry Druid 7
Not sure how to feel about this; I was using Starry form a lot in second half of Act 1 (levels 4>6) so a lot of the swamp, Goblin camp, Underdark and Forge but other than the incredible bonus action breath it wasn't amazing.
For the last bit in the monastery I had her take an Elixir of the Colossus and go Owlbear so she was 5005kg and with Tavern Brawler she was just a monster. Constantly in the way but Crushing Flight and double claws attack could do a tasty 40-60 damage everytime.
Astarion Lore Bard 7
Probably the least effective member, but he gets the job done. Dual wielding blades and dual wielding crossbows; occasional buffs and healing, increasingly large number of control spells.
Timeline so far
10 July 2026 - new game; cleared as far as level 4;
11 July 2026 - cleared from level 4 all the way to level 7 right as I picked up the Blood of Lathander; barely defeated creche boss and then Undead fight at end of Act 1 (crashed again due to Void Bulb / Wall of Fire shenanigans) and met Elminster, saved in camp right as we moved to Act 2.
Assessment
It's going fine; still not in love with druids but they can be fun; Rangers are fine too; plus bards... and wizards it's like I'm playing all the classes/subclasses I am least interested in (in Bg3). Looking forward to the Shadowheart All-Cleric run and Karlach All-Barbarian run more now.
Also these Origin runs are just the death of interesting characters; Gale is such a great character but when you play as him you only hear him in banter while travelling around, he just becomes a silent protagonist. Really looking forward to my 'Dark Urge as Sorcerer' run in the future, they nailed that.

July post #1 Gale FAIL Honour mode run Origin 4
I started as Gale on a whim on 10th of July 2026 - Bg3 is my comfort game these days so fuck it, what's yet another Honour Mode run?
The party
Gale Wizard: Evocation 5
Blaster wizard who rarely got to blast! I was just short of Level 3 spells so was not too exciting. I had him with higher Con and lower Cha so while he had more HP I failed a lot of Persuasion checks.
Lae'zel Wizard: Bladesinger 5
Bladesinging is always cool, one of my fave concepts. Boiled down to just Lae dual-wielding and occasionally Bladesinging (only 2 charges so was not often used).
Shadowheart Wizard: Abjuration 5
I had an idea to make her a sort of frontline tank but it never really popped off.
Astarion Wizard: Divination 5
I heard Divination was Op so went for it; was initially thinking Necromancy but it's so weak compared to Death Cleric. It was kind of annoying as when I had Portent Dice it would ask constantly if I wanted to use them and the rolls sucked.
Timeline of events
10th July 2026 - I managed to make it to level 4 and had just cleared the Goblin camp when I decided to push onto Flind's cave. I let them kill the two guys and go inside as usual but then as I set down some smokepowder barrels at the mouth of the cave I was caught and combat initiated! One acid arrow later andthe whole party was wiped.
As this is not my first rodeo I was not too upset, I barely reacted to the ending. I decided to honourably delete my save file and left it for a bit; I hopped back on a New Game later and got as far as I did in 8 hours in 4 hours. I went with a different setup: Gale locked in as Wizard but SH as Stars Druid, Lae as full Ranger, Astarion as Lore Bard. Basically all the stuff I never use/otherwise multi-class. I decided against Sorcerer for now, that's for the Durge run and is powerful. TBC.
Assessment
I was kind of bored - I hate long resting so my Wizards were reduced to cantrips and crossbows, not very exciting but it was mostly working. I use a lot more exploits now where possible (explosive barrels and whatnot) to reduce playtime and grind. I prefer my new 'under-used classes' party headed by a full Wizard Gale. I always multi-class away from Ranger so will be interesting to see full Ranger 12 (loving Swarms so far) plus Starry Druid and Lore Bard (loved Swords, others are eh).

I had the idea to do an all-fighter party. Strong, but with some weaknesses.
The party
Lae'zel Eldritch Knight.
I called it boring in my Wyll run but figured it made the most sense to make Lae a gish and have options. The best option starting out was the Friends cantrip. This made a lot of the dialogue encounters easier for Lae'zel, who also has access to Astral Knowledge and Guidance from Astarion the Arcane Archer. The other great thing starting out was the other cantrip, Booming Blade. So great to inflict it on enemies then push them, so when they go to move BOOM.
But yeah Great Weapon Master, 22 Strength, Alert, access to excellent Gith equipment, first dibs on stuff like Ketheric's armour and so on... Lae has been great as always. I spent all 4 inspiration points trying to resist the astral tadpole but unfortunately for Lae she became half-illithid. Oh well, I tried. Astarion had munched most of the tadpoles prior to that but Lae now had a bunch of powers for free. She took one (1) after the zaithisk which also ended badly.
Astarion Arcane Archer (Triple A or AAA).
AAA had been so good before I brought him back. I also felt bad how things ended in previous run. He was also the only person chugging tadpoles for most of the game.
Arcane Archer (AA) I had briefly dabbled with long ago and noted the extremely low chance of inflicting the effects that time, mainly because I hadn't invested in Intelligence. In this run, I got AAA the Intellect Headband which locked his Intelligence at 17, a perfectly respectable +3. Combined with Dexterity 20, Sharpshooter and Alert he was probably the MVP once again. The Joltshooter also helped a lot early on.
Wyll Battlemaster
Poor Wyll - after being sort of an everyman last game, he fell between the cracks again here. I made him sword and board with dual hand crossbows to kind of stay flexible and reduce the pressure on equipment. All-fighter party meant less heavy armour and whatnot to go around. He became Blood of Lathander keeper for Act 2 and was generally just in a supporting role.
Only by mid Act 3 and with some major fights coming up I decided to re-spec him as more of a pure archer. His Strength was at 20 but I switched it to Dexterity 20, Sharpshooter and Alert. So he can back up Astarion in the ranged department and apply Trip/Push/Disarm maneuvers from range. Karlach and Lae'zel stay up front.
Karlach Champion
A bit like Wyll, Karlach suffered a bit too from equipment and purpose perspectives - Champion is not very exciting, and I have her specced as a Two-Handed fighter as well so she often seems like a less-good Lae'zel who gets the excellent Gith swords.
Also, I meant to give her the Astarion Strength potion but accidentally made Lae chug it to get 22 Strength instead. Oops! Oh well. 20 is plenty and sometimes it's 27 with Cloud Giant Elixir. Karlach also gets the Risky Ring to make her more interesting. She's been solid, just not very exciting. This borderline meme party all-fighters was less exciting than I thought!

Timeline of events
27th May 2026 - started the run. Did not free Shadowheart and murdered her on the beach. Slapped Gale's hand into the Abyss. Recruited Ast/Kar/Wyll. Got to level 4.
28th May 2026 - level 5; cleared most of the Underdark/Forge
29th May 2026 - defeated Ethel for a Strength hair, beat Flind, beat the Gith patrol, could not defeat Grym (lack of bludgeoning etc) so nabbed the Adamantine Scale Mail I made and fled. Got to Mountain Pass at level 6.
30th May 2026 - cleared the creche completely and got deep into Act 2; almost party-wiped in monastery when the Lathander traps knocked 2-3 people off the edge for first time ever! Twice!
31st May 2026 - cleared Shadowlands
1st June 2026 - cleared all of Rivington minus Ansur and Gortash, cleared most of the Lower City encounters too (sewers, Bhaal entrance, Lorroakan). Also finally got the Karlach Hot Date achievement, the last one I needed. 100% completion achievement-wise!
2nd June 2026 - killed Raphael easily, Ansur easily, killed Orin easily, killed Gortash easily... killed Cazador easily for the first time. Killed Sarevok for the first time ever and on Honour Mode when my Friends cantrip aggravated him right after I became the Bhaal assassin. Oh well. Saved before Morphic Pool.
3rd June 2026 - finished the Lae’zel Honour Run. I initially snuck up and beat it OK (Orpheus the Flayer was killed twice but everyone else was fine) but took over the brain in my name because it was funny. Then I noticed my game had saved at the base of the brain stem so did it again; way better second time, both times I stayed put and killed the dragon, emperor and guardians; then the mind flayers, then went in. Two Globes and lots of Haste Spores/Mind Sanctuary helped. Brain couldn’t take a round of piercing arrows followed by Karlach/Lae’zel slashing. Anyway, the second time I rode off into the Astral Plane, Karlach died on the beach; the party was OK. Karlach refused to go to Avernus and would not offer to be Flayer so yeah.
Assessment
Anyway it’s over, the all-fighter party was supremely strong in the end but was a rocky road with limited options sometimes.
What's next
I managed to resist clicking New Game immediately as it had been a long day BUT am scheming about a Karlach all-barbarian run. Maybe that's a little too close to an all-fighter run. It'll be fine as I am comfy with the Barbarian class and will have d12 to my health but idk, seems like a bit of a repeat of the fighters gimmick in a way. A challenge would be a 'weaker' class like Rogue or one of the magical classes; supremely powerful eventually but fragile starting out.

June #1 post: Baldur's Gate 3 Origin Run 1: Wyll. Honor Mode Completed 3 times now
After finishing my Dark Urge Honor Mode run I immediately hit new game and started a Wyll run.
I'll keep him as a Warlock for the entire run and will keep a pretty tight party, no need to keep switching people in and out.
The party
I had Astarion as the Gloomstalker-Assassin-Champion combo I love so much. Ranger to level 5 for extra attack, then 4 levels of Rogue for a feat, then 3 levels of Champion Fighter. He became the crit-fisher de jeure for 99% of the game.
Lae'zel as Eldritch Knight Fighter, it was not terribly exciting. Best use of it was Shield as a reaction. In this run I did not utilise the spell options that much for her, she mainly just swung her sword. Perfect.
Karlach was my Giant Barbarian for the first time - the verdict was it's not as good as Throwzerker but it's fine. I often found myself just not bothering/being in right place to use the Bonus Action Kick or Throw Person (amusing as both of them are).
Gale would also, critically, be in camp. Plus Shadowheart and a few others. Origin runs are interesting in that there is no Tav/Durge so you're automatically down a potential party member. I know there are always hirelings but still.
Timeline of events
3rd May 26 - started the run, I got Shadowheart to Command Drop the flaming sword on the Nautaloid so I knew I was doing well.
4th May 26 - got as far as the Blighted Village, hadn't long rested yet
5th May 26 - got Wyll and co to level 5, stopped short of Ethel/Underdark/Forge
6th May 26 - killed Ethel, cleared Forge and Underdark, only long rested on crossing the bridge to creche etc; 3 long rests in all of Act 1 I was impressed. Level 7 before Act 2.
7th May 26 - cleared almost all of Act 2 in one go; stopped at top of tower. Shadowheart left the party as I had left her in camp while doing Shar Trials, oh well. Just short of level 10 before Myrkul.
8th May 26 - beat Act 2 without long resting (the pod before Myrkul helped) so that was cool; was deep into Act 3.
9th May 26 - cleared all of Rivington (minus Gortash and Ansur) and parts of the Lower City; stopped before Lorroakan Fight. Level 11.
10th May 26 - cleared the sewers and Lorroakan etc; got to level 12.
26th May 26 - killed Ansur relatively painlessly; killed Gortash upstairs but Wyll had to escape solo and the rest of the party were KO'd and jailed - easily escaped. Orin was also tough but doable, knocked all her minions off the edge. Went to House of Hope and the Incubus almost wiped the party, fuck.
27th May 26 - Final session. Started by escaping HOH: Raphael was fine by contrast. Astarion had clutched multiple times (crits on a 17?) that even though I had never done it before I went and found Cazador as I felt Wyll owed him that.
The result was a disaster: I had never met Cazador before so was completely unprepared, failed to reach Astarion in time and he was permanently killed. Lost all his good equipment minus one or two things and his arrows/potions etc which appeared in a backpack. Disaster. Wyll was killed early, Lae'zel was stuck in sleep due to Eyebite and it was up to Karlach to hop around the edges and flee combat.
So yeah, was down my arguably best party member and his equipment so it was up to Gale to fill that void. Made him the same build as Astarion but he was just inferior without the good equipment. Also I was at that annoying stage of the game where the Steel Watch constantly aggro in BG so it was time to end it. For the first time since my first run in December 2025, I Gale'd the ending!
It was a very quiet Reunion Camp party: Wyll as Duke, Lae'zel projection, Karlach the Mindflayer, Jaheira and Halsin, a Gale projection (sad). I didn't have the option to reload before the brain fight like with the Durge so just left it as is.
Assessment:
It was a good run, strong party, played it fairly safe. I do this thing like in New Vegas where I try to do my companion quests as completely as possible depending on who I am running. It adds a bit of length to Act 3 (which is huge) but much of it is optional really. I lose motivation usually when I hit max level but found this cures it a bit.
But yeah didn't feel confident enough after the Cazador disaster to fight the final fight. I'd probably have been fine but who knows.
Wyll as POV was fine - he banters a lot less and just was laregly mute, the worst thing about the Origin characters being the MC is you lose all their dialogue. I missed Wyll just the way he was, as a travelling companion.
As Wyll, I roleplayed him as a power hungry fraud lmao. The whole 'Blade of Frontiers' thing is based on a lie anyway so was fun having him chug Speed Potions and consume every single tadpole. He also jumped at the idea of becoming Duke potentially when his father was out of the picture. I won't go anywhere near the Gondians/Steel Watch/submarine etc (have never done any of that stuff) until I see what it's like maybe in a lower difficulty. Especially after the Cazador disaster. I also need to kill him somehow. Next time.
Throwing healing potions and whatnot meant I probably only took... 5 long rests the entire game? Less?
Warlock Wyll was decent. Charisma-focus meant all the dialogue was generally trivial. I wasn't in love with the limited spell slots, but some great options. Eldritch Blast my old friend was excellent. I equipped Mizora's rapier later on so had access to a Cambion. My MC is usually a bit of a swiss army knife so was doing a bit of everything. He also had every tadpole power so was good anyway.
Eldritch Knight was kind of boring but solid. Gave me ideas for future runs. Giant Barbarian was underwhelming - still an easy 4/5 stars but nothing exciting. Best part was taking Elixir of Colossus/Enlarge while raging(enlarges the Giant barb anyway) to make BIG KARLACH. Then the kick would do 20+ damage. Gloom-Ass-Champ is excellent as ever, better with crit-fishing equipment. Astarion was genuinely a monster before he died forever and clutched more than once.
So yeah, another 50 hours well spent. Beating the game as Wyll in HM and defeating Ansur in HM for the first time were achievement enough.
What's next
I immediately hit new game and started Lae'zel Origin Run Honor Mode. She will be an Eldtritch Knight Level 12 Fighter. Her whole party will be composed of Fighters because that's the way she rolls! Karlach Champion, Wyll Battlemaster, Astarion Arcane Archer. As of 2nd June 2026 I am deep into Act 3 so it's going well. I had to use Revivify Scrolls/Withers more than ever before to resurrect people but otherwise was good lol. Also I finally 100% got the achievements (the last one).

I better write something down before I forget.
I swore I would not play BG3 again until after my exams. I was so miserable in general and honestly studied-out (I did a good job this semester with notes) that I treated myself to a quick hour of BG3 on the 19th of April as I waited for Wrestlemania to start on Netflix.
I had a sorcerer named Gold who only existed to see if I had my Honor Mode Golden Dice who I created back in January and briefly played. I figured out how to switch over to the Honor Mode Golden dice I had won and immediately abandoned Gold and her Honor Custom Mode in the Nautiloid in late January 2026.
So in April I played as Gold for an hour - cleared the Nautiloid and recruited Shadowheart, Lazel, Astarion and Gale. I made the mistake of sending Astarion to camp and keeping Gale. I am more familiar with Rogues and Rangers (my first playthrough I had Astarion as a Gloomstalker/Assasin) but less familiar with Gale’s wizardry (I usually keep Gale but re-spec him as other stuff). So naturally when I tried to take on the bandits in Withers’ Dungeon I died.
So Gold was dead and her Honor Custom Mode was compromised. My 2nd failed Honor Mode run, the other being my Swords Bard called Honour who was defeated in the creche. I had one successful run (prior to this Durge run and the Wyll run) as my smug Vengeance Paladin called Tav back in January 2026.
Edits: Gold (the First) was always a Custom run, all sliders maxed out run. Only three sessions played: 1 in Nauty to check dice, 2 as far as Withers' Temple (defeated) and 3 to confirm thsi was the case for a minute. So have still only lost Honor Mode once and beaten it three times (Tav, Durge, Wyll) and counting as of May 2026.
I was itching to play Bg3 again but wanted to try new stuff and was planning to play a Custom run, with all the sliders set to super hard. I think that was my plan with Gold actually? Whatever, I booted up Honor Mode again - treating myself in mid-April 2026.
The party
I am going to be the Dark Urge again like my Half-Orc Dark Urge Fighter/Battlemaster (named ‘The Dark Urge’) who cleared the game on Tactician in December/January 2025/2026. However this time, I am a Dragonborn Swords Bard. I did enjoy my playthrough as a Swords Bard despite failing the first time. Dual hand crossbows were fun, extra short rest, nice selection of bonuses/skills and excellent roleplay. But yeah, a Gold Dragonborn lady called Gold II.
I wanted to try a bunch of new stuff on my second completed (hopefully) Honor Mode run, so am running a Druid, Sorcerer and Monk, having never properly ran them before, plus a Wizard and Warlock who I cycle in here and there.
Shadowheart - Druid (Circle of the Moon): she’s not terrible but I feel like I am constantly in animal shape, mostly Bear but sometimes Deep Rothé, and it’s underperforming. Not as tanky as I would like. Also, all the amazing spells she has can’t be used. HOWEVER I have just hit level 5 and suddenly have two attacks plus re-spec to take Tavern Brawler I think it works.
Lae’zel - Monk Open Hand. I’m kind of getting into this - way less tanky than my usual Barbarian or Fighter builds for her, but she is doing her job. Tavern Brawler and the gloves that give electric damage are helping a bit. Monk abilities that topple and push etc are just like what Fighter and Barbarian gave me before so it’s just the same stuff in a different way. Plus some nice unique monk options.
Karlach - Sorcerer - I was trying to do the whole make enemies Wet then use Lightning and Cold damage but idk, it’s too much setup. I wasn’t enjoying it. She just got access to Lightning Bolt so will see what happens.
Gale - Wizard - backup for when Karlach runs out of Sorcery Points and Spells slots (often). He’s just Evocation so it’s more blasting. Trying to avoid the excellent Fire spells so am taking Cold and Lightning stuff.
Wyll - Warlock - first time using Wyll since he abandoned me after I killed the Grove by accident that one time. I have him as a pure Warlock for once and he’s doing great, extra backup for when Gale and Karlach are spent.
Astarion - I briefly had him as a Ranger/Rogue but he’s on camp watch duty.

Verdict half-way through Act 1: not enjoying Sorcerer or Druid much, but loving Swords Bard and Monk.
Verdict half-way through Act 3: Monk is amazing, Swords Bard is amazing; Sorcerer and Druid are very strong but aren't as fun.
Act 1: Pretty much my standard Act 1 nonsense at this point. Almost lost the run around level 4 ish when I tried to take on Flind and the Gnolls and was forced to flee. I was worried they would chase me forever but managed to get Karlach away.
Otherwise was great by the time I hit level 5 or 6 I was well able to handle anything.
Act 2: pretty much did everything as usual; everything was going swell - I talked the surgeon to death as usual, but the barkeep and toll collector I had to fight. I ground down the barkeep after he caught me pretending to drink. The gold lady/toll collector attacked me because I left all my gold at camp on purpose. I immediately knocked her out the window for 600+ damage with Mobile Flourish or whatever its called. Unreal.
I also botched the Last Light Inn - I tried to protect Isobel but she got paralysed and Ko'd for taken for the first time. Damn! So had to fight all the Harpers. Jaheira was killed, Dammon was turned... Massacre. Meanwhile Halsin was waiting for me nearby at his gate thing. I hadn't done that since my very first Balanced run, so was scared of doing it on Honor Mode for the first time but completely dominated the fight. Darkness Arrow at the portal, then just spammed Ice Storm. All the shadow folk just kept falling prone.
My Dark Urge - Fel was mad at me earlier for not immediately killing Isobel, but then was happy because Isobel was dead/captured and everyone died anyway later. So I got th Slayer form! It's been a weird Dark Urge run - somewhere between resisting and embracing the Urge. Saw some scenes I ad not seen before.
Anyway I systematically cleared Moonrise, and every other encounter in the Shadowlands; beat the Shar Trials 2/3 by using Knock on the final door (fuck the Leap) and Shadowheart made the right choice as usual. So we marched back to Ketheric, beat him, long rested, cleared the colony and beat Myrkul easily taking almost no damage.
Usual save the Emperor spot afterward and off to Act 3!
Act 3: I cleared Rivington almost completely, just didn't bother with the Harpers in that warehouse and eventually watched the coronation. I did the Dragon Trials as far as Ansur's door and turned around to get to level 11. I still don't want to fight Ansur on HM.
Off to the Lower City and just walked around for experience; accidentally murdered the Guild in the sewers again. Was tempted to do the Gondian/Throne quest but will leave it this time. So what's actually new on this run?
I will attempt to assassinate Gortash maybe in the tower, and I will try to find Ethel. OH I will also actually fight Raphael for the first time, and on Honor Mode no less. Future runs as Origin characters (Wyll, Astarion etc) can deal with Ansur, Gondians, saving the Duke and fighting Cazador. Otherwise it's time to wrap up, am tiring of the run as usual.
Updated: I beat House of Hope for the first time on Honor Mode. They say don't try anything new on HM and they are generally right. I explored as far as the succubus' room using the outer ledge which I found myself (haven't used a proper guide since the first ever run) and it was just Gold II on her own and I pressed '5' to take a screenshot while talking to the succubus and started a fight. Oops! All the imps with eldritch blast almost killed Gold II but she escaped and healed and joined the party. We went back and killed them, used the long rest bath then went and stole the Orphic Hammer and other items. Lockdown started and I went downstairs to free Hope - again almost died to the double Beholders as Laezel was knocked off the ledge but managed to revive her afterward and beat the combat. Freed Hope and got back to the exit. Raphael emerged and I managed to convince Yurgir to switch sides. So it was a decent fight, Monk Lae broke the pillars and everyone just did what they could.
That was enough new stuff. I assassinated Gortash in the tower by doing my usual strategy of flying up the side of the castle, then we ganked him when he eventually climbed the ladder. Used a ton of area effect nonsense to slow and hurt his people.
Prior to that I fought Orin in a duel and lost immediately, revived myself and my party defeated the Bhaal crew. I then went to fight Gortash. I didn't want to risk the Gondian stuff (never did it before) plus I don't know where it is anyway. I think. Some other time!
It was time for the Elder Brain. I made Gold II the Mind Flayer. I skipped the courtyard fight and climbed the brain stem; Orpheus was with me for this run for the first time so the Emperor was against me with the Red Dragon and 4 Dream Guardians which was a cool new thing I saw. ALMOST lost here but managed to rally. Very nearly got wiped at the final hurdle. Managed to clear this fight and got to the inner part of brain, was a tough slog. Easy enough to beat brain as usual.
Before I get into endings: I noticed after credits rolled that my save file was still on Honor Mode and at the brain stem? So bizarrely I did the fight again. And again. And again! I did it like 3 or 4 times to see different endings. And of course, the fights were way easier the subsequent times. I had a really strong party really (Swords Bard, Moon druid, Open Hand Monk, Wet>Ice/Lightning Sorcerer) so was well able.
The reason I went for multiple endings again and again was because I had become the Mind Flayer. In my first ever run on Balanced, my Tav became the flayer but killed themselves heroically in order to hopefully join their lover Lae in the afterlife (Lae turned on party before brain fight, was mad I hadn't freed Orpheus). But now I was a former Bhaalist-turned flayer who tried to live on. Big mistake. 1 ending I was a disguting murderer stalking the party. Another I gave into Bhaal at last minute. Another I imprisoned myself and escaped anyway. Finally I killed myself but was in a special box and Withers visited me. It was all fascinating.
Forgot to mention the busking: I didn't have 100 gold from busking yet. I busked a bit in the Grove and elsewhere but only had about... 20 gold from it. I just went to Rivington and spammed play music until it popped. Easy! It got to the point I wasn't even bothering to pikc the gold off the floor. Helped that I was a Durge Bard. So that makes 53 out of 54 achievements: final one is Karlach Hot Date!
---
Future runs: I watched a random YT video which suggested Wyll was a good origin character to play as and I couldn’t help but agree; I’m thinking of doing a few Origins runs after all my Tav/Dark Urge stuff so Wyll would be a great way to start that. This current ‘try new stuff’ run may end at any time so will probably play if ‘safer’ next time around and go back to my favourites, namely mixing in Paladin, Fighter, Barbarian, Rogue etc. I love Warlock dips so maybe having my future Wyll run as a Paladin/Warlock would work well (I know it will, having done it multiple times). Also I liked the way Counsellor Florick reacted to Wyll (I made him talk to her while I saved the other guy from the fire) so there’s something there.
And then maybe try Fighter Lae’zel and Barbarian Karlach but NOT Battlemaster or Berserker, try the other subclasses. Eldritch Knight Gish for Lae would be cool and maybe Giant Barbarian for Karlach. I love OP throwing builds but am trying to avoid that still. Have the 4th person be some sort of blaster.
But yeah have had my fill of Tav/Durge so it's time to try the Origin characters!

April #4 YESHeartGold first time
I got it to work so played Heart Gold!
I picked Cyndaquil. Though Totodile is usually who I picked almost every other time I played Silver or Gold etc, my original choice back in 2002 or whatever was Cyndaquil. Probably piggybacking off my usual choice of Charmander. I like that line so was grand!
I got the Slugma egg off the dude early on, looked up the correct phrase to say. I hatched it alongside Togepi and considered switching out Cyndaquil for Slugma but it was so weak and levelled so slowly I will save that for a challenging future run
So this became a Greatest Hits run. Get all of my faves. Optimal as possible but not excessively so.
The other 5 party members
Got a Mareep-Flaafy-Ampharos early on as usual and used it for first time in ages. One of my all time faves. Thudner Punch came in very handy later.
I cycled through a bunch of mons early but decided to take Geodude-Graveller again. He levels quick and is solid enough. I will replace him later with Tyranitar (my beloved all time fave) but for now he will do.
Quagsire got back in as a good water type with a unique ground pairing. I 'discovered' Quagsire in the previous run of OG Silver a few weeks ago so decided to use him again.
I ran Bellsprout>Weepinbell as I usually do but my gods is he underperforming. Other than being used to Vine Whip Swimmers and Hikers into oblivion he was tough to use. Natures, meta moves like Safeguard... all made for a tougher time for my designated Grass mon.
Who else... got a Jynx later on as they were great in my recent OG playthrough so why not again. Ice Punch and Powder Snow etc, Psychic from Saffron... great stuff!
What else
I managed to clear the Elite 4 after grinding for a bit in Victory Road. The only other major grind was killing Tauros over by the new Safari Zone before taking on Clair. Kanto is way tougher than before, I've hit a few roadblocks, I don't have Fly and I don't have a Bike so feel a bit soft-locked. No, I think it's fine I'll just grind a bit more and beat Misty and everything should be fine.
I'll come back to it later; I'll try to beat Red and the revamped Elite 4 this time, but not looking forward to the grind. I caught Ho-Oh with a Dusk Ball so that was cool.

^ Interesting as Red was crippled by a lack of Brigantes (usually worth 50-80 points) and a poor Saxon game (66 points!). Irish were wiped too. It's the best I've seen Green score as a colour on its own, best normally was by me 215 before. It only took 3 people. Second best Yellow score too (I had 257 in our first game in 2023). Worst Red score ever. Best Blue score (bravo Royce for making Blue so good more than once).
