Love/Hate #40 Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

Ah shit here we go again.

Nothing like almost dying on the first mission. I played almost the entire game on a keyboard and it was... very difficutl at times. So much so I almost got gunned down by those pesky Ballas within a few seconds of gaining control.

Naturally I have to do every single mission, and one of the most difficult missions at the start is this one for Ryder. If you just take your time, it's half the job. Getting those boxes into a truck any way you can. Once you figure out how to drive with a keyboard you can keep it tight and limit any wasted movement. Ryder was killed the first time so I had to do it a second time, taking care to hop out of the forklift once or twice and stand by the main door and gun down the enemies.

These missions are just insane. I was relieved to have driving controls taken off me and I could use mouse to control the shooting.

THIS was the first mission I suffered a total block. I was not able to do this properly. Apparently there is some sort of glitch or delay associated with the little yellow circle anyway. I tried to plug in the controller finally and it did not really sort the problem. By the skin of my teef I was able to master the 'delay' associated with the yellow circle calling for a button input and just about win. Look at the piece of shit car all banged up from getting there!

Racing I could handle. I did not lose a single race, it's too easy to get ahead, way ahead of other drivers and just dominated, even handicapped by a keyboard. That or I was getting better.

Absolutely crucial to starting some gang wars is getting the proper equipment. I usually equip SMGs so I can ride a bike or bicycle, an assault rifle for ranged killing and some grenades for crowd control. Armour is essential.

God I love the gang wars. Could be difficult to get them to start but entering rival turf and shooting up some multiple of gang members gets them started. The toughest ones were the tiny ones; big territories are easy like the one above, so many exploitable terrains the AI can't handle. Also the move in weird fixed formations so its easy to gun them down in droves/lines and later, when I figured it out, throw a grenade the correct way. Trick is to hold down the button!

I did not do much property buying this run; this is not a 100% completion run by any means. Handy to have some strategic save points scattered across the map though.

I sometimes recruited a few meatshields fellow Grove Street men to my side but they are generally useless.

Goddamn pigs.

Actually the only time fellow gang members are useful is if you are being attacked, the enemy do a weird formation of two cars blocking the road and its easy enough to recruit nearby GS members and take out the invaders.

Ah, my main source of income - killing drug dealers!

I attempted a few dates with the first girlfriend but couldn't be arsed. There are enough things to keep track of. I did not bother getting the cop gf or nurse gf later, I was doing good by then.

Thats how it's done! Toss the grenade just right and you can wipe out most if not all of a wave of baddies.

It can be pretty freaky taking on the horde by yourself.

This is one such tight territory. A bridge and the section under thr bridge. I could camp at the top of the stairs connecting the two and wait for the AI to approach, but be careful as if they have the higher ground it can be more dangerous for you...

Almost completed!

LOL at the broken Respect meter. Got all the respect in the world.

Back to the story. Its time to attack the enemy fortress.

I'm so glad these ladies restore your health.

This was pretty insane but again, mouse control of shit like this was WAY easier at this point than actually having to drive.

A pretty iconic moment, I think.

Sad moment! It was a trap and now you have to live in the sticks...

My respect!!!

Time to buy property in the countryside I guess.

Good gods the Catalina missions. I read online you could wipe out Derek and his buddy there at the very start of the petrol station heist so that made driving the tanker much easier. You don't have them shooting you the whole time. I jackknifed the truck a few times but without pursuit its so easy, take your time.

Fucking around in the country. I love bikes normally but they were a bit tricky to manage with the keyboard, which is too precise; with the bike you really want the control stick to weave a bit.

Time for some Truth missions. Also, a whole load of pain at times.

This was easy enough to steal but tough to drive around. Again, the precision of the keyboard makes you drive in fixed lines a bit more and this probably saves you from a myriad of mistakes possible on a control stick.

Now that's how you woo a woman!

Ah the insanity. This was quite tough to manage as they slowly drop their hands as you point your gun at them.

More racing? Easy.

I don't know what the other cars do be up to but a few corners cut and you can outpace them completely.

I need to play that GTA, I have it in my library I'll give it a go eventually.

Whatever Catalina, I beat you and your new man by miles!

Fucking flamethrowers. It was aactually quite hard to get the drugs to burn; I ran out of fuel on the first attempt. Again, the stick versus keyboard issue.

I love that there are a few of these in GTA1 and they are excruciatingly slow to drive as well.

I can't see shit with my windscreen like that. Actually, the cracks are on the passenger side of this American car so all good. Ish.

One of the most infamous missions, two of them, are here. I did them both! With a keyboard and mouse! Mostly.

Are you on drugs, Zero?

Damn you Berkley!

Thank the gods these planes are in fixed formations. Just move to the correct view, keep the gatling gun in one position and focus on firing. They all fly into your shot.

Infamous mission the first. I somehow, SOMEHOW managed to do this with a keyboard only. It took about three proper attempts.

The four transports you need to destroy start near you but spread out fast. Its possible to get 2 fairly quick, 1 almost immediately, but by that point the other 2 have diverged pretty fast across the city. As above, I had one left and ran out of fuel. Ouch.

Thankfully the bulk of the mission is flying in somewhat straight lines;. keep button for acceleration down the whole time but when speed is sufficient, you can glide! So let go and just hover along. This is how you save fuel.

Two targets to go and that little fuel? This can only end well...

What they don't tell you I believe is you need to kill all targets then fly back to the roof safely. So on second major attempt I killed them all and had exaclty 0 left in tank. I tried to get there anyway to no avail.

Huzzah! All targets dead and over half a tank left. I managed a system where I would fly neatly to the target, land near them or ahead of them and then gun them down - the aim is automatic I believe so just holding fire does the job. Then it was matter of taking off from the ground again and flying to next target. Gliding as much as possible. Repeat.

So close. There was a button I pressed that would make the plane blow up randomly and fail, also if it tipped over upside down on ground it would explode too. So I probably did the mission closer to 5-10 times.

It's done. Infamous mission #1. Well, for some people it's just the next one.

The model army fight. It's notorious if you have ever heard of San Andreas or played it but it was actually fine, again on keyboard.

I did have to replay it a couple of times but once you manage all the moving parts its fine. Time becomes the toughest factor. Again, tight controls back to base, pick up metal bridges for the Bandit to cross, then back to base for barrels to drop on the tanks shooting at the Bandit, repeat. If you fly really close to the ground and drop the barrels right next to the tanks you can kill them handy enough. Also, you can lose your helicoper and respawn so that's handy.

For some reason, Berkley just gave up and piled barrels here.

So victory was ours!

I got Zero's shop! I would never return.

This was a fun mission. Impersonate a valet and incriminate the target. Watch as he gets arrested.

Some of these missions were DARK. You have to trap a guy in the portapotty, knock it into this hole and fill it with cement. Bleak. And as you can see the cops were there too and just watched it all happen.

Driving school was rough. I did just enough to keep the story going. I usually finish the whole thing if possible on the PS2 but left it for the PC.

Teehee.

Ah we will have fun trying to take all three of these guys out.

The Jizzy missions were quite difficult. Having to keep a car intact? Yikes.

Good gods stealth missions. Actually fine if you take your time but struggled here.

Love me some fixed controls. I normally absolutely despise them on a controller but with the keyboard they were a relief.

Of course, that doesn't last forever as you have to land and rescue the captives.

Hurray!

Melee combat is normally easy on the console. With the keyboard, it was often death. Thankfully I managed to kill the old snake.

This was surprisingly difficult. Not least because I insisted on stalking him on a motorcycle.

My stupid outfit change.

2/3 of the baddies dealt with.

Oof. Idk what happened here. A helicopter crash.

The snipers are not too difficult to use if you keep it on a fixed x axis, don't try anything fancy.

I could fly helicopters and toy planes easily enough.

1992! 4 wheeled drive is tough.

Managed to clear this particular mission easy enough...

Mike Toreno is a friend after all!

The best helicopter. So tough it can withstand a few missile hits and the handy autocannon underneath it wipes out enemies from a great height.

This is the beginning of the difficulty.

The first mission or two of flight school were fine. But then things got awkward...

Thank you, thank you.

Once they introduced elaborate turns and rolls, I could no longer manage. So I plugged in the Xbox controller I have after much trial and error and managed to use the buffers and shoulder buttons to turn properly. I could use the keyboard fine with basic flight but to bank properly into the coronas it was impossible to get it just right. That or I'd get one then go wildly off course. Fine in a tiny toy plane, not so good in a real one.

I finally passed it, note the Joy2 Joy 4 etc, meaning I had the controller in.

Bank left? Little did I know.

I managed to figure it out eventually and on all later flight missions (quite a few) I would plug in the controller mid-flight and manage from there.

I could fly helicopters just fine so long as I could tip it forward, either on keyboard or controller.

Good times with a parachute!

This was surprisingly hard to get right but I got there eventually. You have to pass the whole flight school to continue the main story.

THIS was tough. Thankfully I figured out you can just bomb down the long straight avenues and boulevards and swerve to get there. But again, DARK.

Oh god the flight missions.

Stay below radar? Easy.

One of the best missions. I couldn't get aboard the plane at first despite multiple attempts but I eventually managed to get the speed right.

And KABOOM.

Stealing the jetpack from the military base. I did not use it as much as I normally do.

Though it is handy for collectables. I was not pursuing them, however.

This is my progress after unlocking the whole island, for example.

Minigun in the chest.

I wanted higher gun skills so hit up the shooting range. Good for getting the skills up quickly.

Catch!

This took a few attempts. Poor guy splatted once or twice.

A corona mid mission? Good gods.

At least you get to fly the lovely Shamal after all that.

This was ridiculous. He does eventually get stuck in a loop in a particular hick town so its possible to gun him down there. But the chase was totally rigged initially.

Launching an assault on Mad Dog's mansion.

The Hydra, my fave plane, was even harder to fly at times. Having two modes, landing/stall and flight'll do that to you.

Yay, Sweet is free!

Good gods, stay away from drugs, kids.

Free Big Bear.

These are fucking hideous to drive.

The amount of vehicles you have to master in this game...

Back to taking over Los Santos!

Final mission time...

Bastard! Jesus he could take a lot of Ak bullets to the head before dying.

That's Big Smoke done for, now time for Tenpenny...

I would die in the fire. I read online you can gain Fire Immunity by doing all the fire fighting missions, which were fairly easy apparently so for the first time I would do all of them.

One of the girlfriends I happened to stumble across. I did not bother pursuing her as above. Onto the firefighting:

They were actually grand and really easy to manage!

It works!

OK back to fighting Tenpenny...

Why are you running Carl, you are immune to fire!

The final chase is suitably dogshit insane.

Thankfully your brother gets back in the damn car.

Finito! Fittingly, right where it all started, in the hood.

Thank you, Truth.

The end!

Aw, good for you, Mad Dog.

Fin. I had not played it in maybe 10 years or more so was fun to clear it again. I had only finished it once before on the PS2 so was nice to finish it on the PC, even if there are no achievements.

I would occasionally pick it up just to mess with it, usually do a bit of free roaming on the PS2. Or do the classic co-op free roam with someone.

The main barrier was the keyboard but I largely got around that and just adapted. It's not the most difficult game anyway so it was not the end of the world when the flight school came up for example, that blindsided me but I simply plugged in the controller and used both.

New stuff I experienced the most prominent one is the fire immunity, what a great reward for doing all the firefighting missions. I had messed around with the medic and swat mission before but never got the awards, this time on PC I focussed completely on firefighting and it served me well in the final mission. I was fine with people shooting at me but fire everywhere was tough to manage.

All in all, an absolute gem!

2022 retrospective

2020 was OK for me personally, mainly because all I did was work, sleep and save money. And eat a lot of 4 star pizza. And ice cream. 2021 was shite as I had a worse job and had to work days again after a year of nights so for 6 months I was miserable, but managed to get back onto an evening shift in the last few months of the year so was OK in end.

2022 was better than those, which I mainly rigged by myself by going out 2-4 times a month or more, being more careful with my food intake and finding new ways to exercise. I met a load of new people and reconnected with old ones. I got to travel again so did my usual 3 trips to Europe. Funnily enough I didn't buy a lot of crap like I did in 2020-2021 but I even sold some shit, mainly books and collectables. Most money was spent on food and drink, my faves. I was breaking even with my job and not getting anywhere so it was finally time to leave, especially when they put me back on days. I left and started my new courses and its going pretty well. Here's to a better 2023!

Music:

I was working until mid-July in 2022 so was still subject to the constant radio of Today Fm but after that it was all me. Until May I was on evening shift so for large parts of that I was able to sneak my headphones in so I was free from the endless barrage of pop. And I like pop but anyone who has worked in a place with Today FM all day will know it gets tiring hearing Harry Styles once on the morning show, again on the 9-12 show, again on the lunchtime show. Same with the evenings, though the evening show had a very weird alternative hour or two that I tried to get into but just couldn’t.

Long story short, I don’t remember many hits from 2022! Looking at a list I saw ‘As it Was’ and it was like PTSD I could just remember it all again, the beat everything. And I like Harry Styles ‘Adore You'' but this was just incessant this year. But perhaps ‘As it was’ wins the 2022 Song of the Year contest by default.

I listened to Kenny Omega’s ‘Battle Cry’ a lot at the start of the year and somewhat throughout the year. Great for working out or just walking to work and back. I got into AFI and Miseria Cantare ‘The Beginning’ because Punk used it once. Sam Fender’s ‘17 going under’ also got some airplay on Eoghan FM. I watched that video Metal Gear Solid Incorrect Summary of Revengeance and ‘It has to be this way’ ruled.

So mostly wrestling stuff like Roman Reigns' new theme, Cody’s ‘Kingdom’, Adam Cole Bay Bay, ‘Judas’ by Fozzy has been constant since late 2019 and Hangman Page’s music. Jeff Jarrett’s My World is also an ear worm.

Real music I was into this year included: Bjork ‘Play dead’, Lil Nas ‘Someone to love’, Faith No More ‘Midlife Crisis’, ‘Cult of Personality’ by Living Color, DB Boulevard ‘Point of View’, various Fleetwood Mac tracks, some Duran Duran and Aslan.

Christine McVie died a few weeks ago so that got me back into the Mac, had not been as religious listening to them the last few years since seeing them in 2019.

I got a sort of YouTube Wrapped this year, still no Spotify but of course it was dominated by wrestling tracks. I love listening to them on YouTube Premium while walking to work or school and sometimes while working out and I do a lot of both I’m not ashamed to say. I took advantage of the ‘Downloads’ feature to escape the shackles of wifi/data. So by the YouTube Wrapped, I will give the overall #1 song of the year to Cult of Personality.

Wrestling

I only watched a few wrestling matches this year, as is typical I watched the Royal Rumble in January. I also checked out the Elimination Chamber and of course, bits of Wrestlemania. I watched CM Punk versus Hangman Page in May. Cody Rhodes was cool to see in the WWE. I also watched the two CM Punk versus Jon Moxley matches in the summertime.

I was so disappointed when Punk got injured again, I could tell it had happened after he jumped the ropes and was clutching his arm a lot. I didn’t watch much otherwise but the All out (or Brawl Out, Gripe Bomb) Media Scrum was entertaining but also sad as it resulted in suspensions. Didn’t watch as much after that. I never cared for Punk before 2021 but was cool following his progression, he made me want to watch the show instead of just listening to podcasts.

I listened to hundreds of hours of Jim Cornette this year via YouTube, especially when I was playing Civ or some other game like that. I don't listen to podcasts while walking but I do while working out.

I have kind of given up on my own fantasy booking federation but it's always there to return someday, if I find a new video game to work on.

DND

My usual GM has been very generous with his time and energy and continues to run games for me and a few others on Discord. We are currently playing Spelljammer since August when it came out. I had bowed out in 2021 due to work conflicts but was finally able to rejoin with no more work. Has been a nice Wednesday ritual.

In January (hopefully) I will post everything about my campaign I ran from 2020 to 2022.

Travel

Czech - after over 2 and half of years of being stuck in Ireland, I finally got to leave and go to Czech, which I had planned to do in March-April 2020 but then Covid. So in March 2022 myself and Royce went and it was just lovely.

Italy - I did my first solo trip since August 2019 when I went to Italy in September 2022. It was also nice but very hot, I got to meet two friends over there who were very generous with their time and showed me lovely food over there. I had the nicest carbonara I've ever had in my life I almost cried eating it. I also developed my taste for 1 star hostels here, as mine was good even if I had to share the room with 3 others.

Spain - I snuck over to Spain at one point and it was cold in Ireland but 17 degrees over there. Barcelona I love you but I only saw you for 36 hours so I will return.

Exercise

I continue to lift weights since I picked them up 'properly' in September 2019 and have pretty much kept at it since. All my attempts to get 'bigger' have largely failed so will try and go the other way for 2023. I will continue to eat well and exercise with weights 4 days a week but it's no longer the focus as much. Lean and definition over size.

I finally started running again in September after a 30 month break (seriously) and it was so difficult. Lack of a track which I liked running on meant pitches and I just can't do that anymore. It's all I did as a teenager and my legs still ain't right. I may do what I did once a long time where I cycle, then hop off bike and do a few laps then back on bike.

More importantly I started cycling again in October and that yielded results. I did the 30 day challenge and got almost halfway in, then after that in November and December I kept going most days a week, was exciting to see progress and my hip pain vanished. The rain has been disgusting and its cold the last few weeks so while I haven't cycled since December 16th-ish I hope to make a return to regular progamming very soon.

I had Covid in March and something like Covid in November so am still mostly healthy but have a lingering cough that gets aggravated by dairy and some other things. Hasn't really affected my training but is annoying sometimes.

And of course, I continued to walk a lot, not as much as 2021 but still loads. Started getting taxis to work when I was on day shift May-July (before quitting) and walking home. Sat home for July and August but get lifts into college since September and walk home.

Writing

I had spent much of 2019 writing ‘1 page a day’ and was quite successful; I finished the story I wanted to tell by October or so. I had a package of printing paper and before bed every day I would write in pen on one side and then read and go to bed. No more, no less. Sometimes I’d do an extra page or two and I missed a few days too but made great progress. In 2020 I also started another project, the continuation of the story, but hit a block. I attempted to type the first attempt up in 2021 but it was difficult.

I didn’t do much until November 2022 when I started to type up my old diaries from 2017 onward. I’m making crazy progress, at almost 28,000 words and am only halfway there. The first draft could be around 60,000 or more words and with a second draft could be looking real good.

Books

I only read a few books in 2022, trying to get back into the habit I lost in 2020 due to night shift.

I read the Crime of the Congo when I was in Westport during the summer, in July. I also read most of the Rise and Fall of the Great Powers, an old favourite in a new edition. Just started the Daniel Byran biography very recently so will try and finish that early January and get cracking on all my unread books. I sold a load of books I finished to Charlie Byrne's a few months ago for a pittance but was nice to clear them out. Oh I also finished the Power of Geography sequel.

Plans for 2023

The main thing is to finish my course in GTI in May and focus on the ‘main course’ in GMIT/ATU for 12 months of 2023. After May I can focus on it fully if not even sooner and get that sorted. Work experience should follow in 2024 and all will be well.

Hopefully I will travel to a minimum of 3 places again in 2023; in Europe I have my eye on Poland, Lithuania and Latvia to fill out the eastern part of the map; other than that maybe random places like Malta, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, maybe the Balkans. Further afield, I might try to get to the USA and Canada at last on one side and Australia and New Zealand on the other.

In conclusion

2022 was a 7 out of 10, just barely. Nothing major other than leaving work and going back to college, which still seems unreal to me. Got to travel a bit again and had loads of fun in Galway.

Britannia Solitaire write-up

I finally got my hands on a more or less pristine copy of Britannia from Fantasy Flight Games. The cardboards chits had not been punched out but the board was little bit worn on the hinges and the box fell apart on one corner on opening more or less. But it's basically perfect and didn't cost a fortune.

I played it 2-3 times in total I believe at my brother's house between like 2005-2010 ish. First time ever I was blue and just failed utterly, didn't do so good with Boudicca/Belgae at start, attempted to be aggressive with the Picts and died, was wiped out as the Angles as is customary and failed to make a dent as the Normans which is standard from what I can see.

The second or third time (last time) I ever played it a few years later I was red and one of those times I won decisively. Maybe it was just once I played again and won or I am muddling the two memories together. Either way, I played as red at some point and won: Brigantes held out until end game, the Irish for a foothold in Wales, the Norsemen took a bite out of Scotland and the Saxons held England. Almost perfect way to get a ton of victory points and win but it was just luck and I probably had a better feel of the strategy of the game by then.

---

I often test the rules of games so I can be ready to read the rules out for friends at later stage by playing them solitaire. I try to simulate as much conflict or cooperation as I can obviously its inferior to just playing it with other people. But at least when I hopefully get to break Britannia out with friends in a few weeks I'll be ready for rules queries and arbitration.

So I had the privilege of playing as the yellow (or formerly, purple) Romans for the first time and the various greens. In Britannia yellow have a reputation of scoring loads of points early as the Romans and kind of just hanging on until the end, with minor spurts of activity later in the game. Blue are the kind of the opposite, waiting for the Angles and especially the Normans at the end to make a difference. Green and Red score throughout the game.

Yellow did OK but probably underperformed. Belgae submitted with 3 territories left, Welsh submitted after they broke through to the lowlands and Devon and the Brigantes did not surrender. The Romans reached one upland tile of Scotland but were done. They did lose to a few chance 6 rolls so that weakened their invasion a bit.

Red scored good points for occupying northern England/southern Scotland as the Brigs, causing chaos in southern England as the Saxons while the Irish underperformed in Wales.

Green got most of their points for being Welsh and staying in Wales and the Caledonians defended in northern Scotland. The Jutes were 'allowed' to get their due in Kent but made no impact.

Blue did OK as the Belgae-Boudicca insurrection, burning some Roman forts. The Picts held east Scotland so got what was due but the Angles underperformed in England.

Yellow in Round 7 scoring did poorly enough, as expected after the Roman invasion: Romano-Brits scored one or two kills and provinces but were being annihilated. The Scots I played aggressively with 'Scotland for the Scots!' and took a chunk out of western Scotland and the Brigs' territory in south Scotland-northern England so managed 10 points.

Red Brigs lost out to the Scottish aggression and could not keep Strathclyde, their main point scorer. The Irish failed to make a dent in Wales/western England. The Saxons continued to perform well in England and held their power base in Avalon-Hwicce-Downlands etc as well as much of eastern England the various -folks and -sexes haha.

Green just held nicely in Wales, making occasional jabs in to England but backing out. The Jutes held Kent as usual for 4 and the Caledonians stayed in northern Scotland defending.

Blue Belgae only held Lindsey as is customary only for 2 points. The Picts held eastern Scotland Moray-Mar etc. while the Angles did better this time at the expense of the Romano-Brits.

Red took the lead, being elected Bretwalda twice and continuing to hold western England with the Saxons. The Irish and Brigs only held like one territory each, Cumbria and Galloway respectively.

Green continued to be Welsh in Wales but crucially did not capture York though they made a thrust at it. Caledonians and Jutes held on.

Blue still had Lindsey with the Belgae, east Scotland with the Picts and reasonable English control with the Angles.

Yellow lost their Romano-Brits but gained the Dubliners, who took a bite out of England.

Red continued to dominate and be king a lot in England as the Saxons. The Norse arrived and took 2 of the 3 Caledonian territories in Scotland. The Irish and Brigs were finished.

Green Wales continued to be Welsh but had suffered a bit from Red and Yellow attacks. The Caledonians were now confined to the Hebrides alone. The Danes meanwhile arrived and took a huge chunk of the eastern coast of England, racking up points just for showing up. Payback for the death of the Jutes.

Blue continued to truck along as the Belgae and the Picts but crucially lost the Angles, sandwiched as they were between the Saxons and Danes.

A situation emerged with a runaway leader, the Reds, so the 3 other 'players' 'agreed' to fight them as best as they could in a loose alliance while also trying to claw back the game in the last 3 rounds.

Yellow kept Scotland Scottish, while the Dubliners held on in Cheshire and north western England. The Norwegians arrived late and wiped out the Belgae and killed Harold.

Red got beaten down to only 2 territories by the end of the game. They made a valiant attempt to kill William in the middle of England but failed and tried to just hide in the southwest.

Green managed to take back Cornwall from the Reds and Wales kept scoring them consistent points. The Caldedonians survived in the Hebrides. The Danes smashed through York and killed William the Conqueror, making Svein King of England.

Blue got their Pict points and some props for beating up the Saxons and killing Harald but it was too late for them.

---

So in the end the Alliance handed victory to the Greens. I learned a lot form the solo playtrhough, not least the rules but also how viable the Greens are, if a little boring sometimes. I'm still not sure how to do good as the Blues. Nice to see the Yellow have their day with the Norwegians and the Dubliners and Scots are no slouches either. Reds continue to be unreal in my mind and have the clearest strategy of holding 4 different parts of Britain with 4 different players.

Anyway I'll come back later with an update on how the real game with 4 players does!

October 30 day cycle challenge oct 22 to nov 22

I attempted a 30 day in a row challenge - to cycle every day. Totally arbitrary and not forced just something to do, something different seeing as I can't swim or run so good anymore. I lasted 13 days! I went out on the 13th night and day 14 was Halloween AND really rainy so that's where it ended.

On the plus side, I will keep up the cycling for another few months but be more relaxed about it, maybe take the weekends or at the minimum Saturdays off.

There were no real cons but the weather outside was frightful sometimes, I only got caught a couple of times but it would put you off cycling constantly.

My entire route was confined to the Dangan Sports Centre and sometimes I would go through Corrib Village and back, which was a nice change as there are very few cars and no potholes. Sometimes the path by the river would be quite puddle-y.

I also struggle with bursitis or something in my hip namely my right hip and I noticed after a few days this totally vanished and indeed my 2-3 walks home a week from college became so much easier. I was walking like an old man at points before doing this cycle thing but that totally changed.

My notes from the cycle challenge:

30 day cycle challenge oct 22 to nov 22

1 back hurts

2 ass hurts

3 felt sick

4 did not get rained on! (had a pizza)

5 - soaked

6 - soaked

7 - felt good!

8 - good

9 - almost perfect, sun in sky, wet ground but no issues

10 - perfect, dry, added a little extra distance here and there and 230 is good time (had a Chinese for dinner)

11 - perfect took it chill full distance done

12 - cut short a bit but missed the rain thankfully

13 - got creative with loops and avoiding crowds, took easy due to drink previous day (ate some Chinese), went out for a second night in row

14 - DID NOT CYCLE, combination of rain, tired and Halloween meant I gave it a miss and thus ended the challenge. Will attempt again in a more relaxed format in a few days.

Distance was roughly 9km for cycles 1-11, 12+13 were maybe 6km.
